My little boy, you are growing up so fast. I try to hang on and let you grow in sweet balance. Your baby cheeks and dimples remind me of how little you once were, and how that time feels so long ago.
I want you to explore the world, to make new friends, to learn who you are. You have your own ideas, your own favorite things, and your own hilarious sense of humor. You can do so many things all by yourself and you’re remarkably determined to do more. You are smart, creative, silly, and very independent. You have endless energy and light up a room wherever you are.
I want to teach you and protect you, so I hold your hand. I want you to see all the wonderful things around us, so I hold your hand. I want you to know that I love you fiercely, so I hold your hand. I want you to know, that no matter what, you are safe and I will always be here for you, so I hold your hand. I wish I could hold onto these moment forever.
Just a moment ago I was rocking you.
Just a moment ago I was comforting you in the night.
Just a moment ago you smiled as we played peek-a-boo.
Just a moment ago I carried you everywhere and wore you close to my heart.
Just a moment ago you needed me for everything.
Just a moment ago I sang you to sleep.
Just a moment ago we cuddled all the time.
Just a moment ago, it was just us.
Just a moment ago I held your hand while you took your first step, your first jump, your first climb at the playground, your first splash in the ocean, and your first walk into preschool.
Just a moment ago I held your hand, and you let go.
